For almost three years now Donnie Kennedy, co-author of the best selling The South Was Right, and I have been working on a book dealing with the Marxist and socialist penetration of both the Union armies and the Republican Party, before, during, and after the War of Northern Aggression. The title of the book is, for those who have not read about it already, Red Republicans And Lincoln's Marxists.
After what seemed like forever, the book was published in August of 2007. It was published by iUniverse of Lincoln, Nebraska (www.iUniverse.com) and it can be ordered through them. It is also available through Amazon (Amazon.com)
Donnie and I deal extensively with the penetration of this country by socialists and communists (the terms were interchangable in 1860) after the failed socialist revolts in Europe in 1848. Those who have followed my work will remember that I have dealt extensively with this subject for several years on the Internet and elsewhere. In my opinion you cannot accurately analyze the War of Northern Aggression without some knowledge in this critical area.
Mr. Lincoln's armies were chock-full of these European socialists and communists, many of them becoming major and brigadier generals, and many of them helping to get the Republican Party off to a flying start in 1856 and after.
Many sincere conservatives have felt, over the years, myself among them, that the Republican Party was always the party of small and less government. The research we did for this book completely demolishes that pleasant little myth, and shows that, from its very beginnings, the Republican Party was the party of big government, socialist government, and early-day corporate fascism. All this had the unstinting support of socialists and communists in both this country and in Europe.
For those interested, the book can be obtained from both the publisher and from Amazon. We had originally planned to be able to sell them for $15 for paperbacks and $25 for hardbacks, but due to some last minute changes by the publisher the cost will be $21.95 for paperbacks and $31.95 for hardbacks.
Years ago a good friend of mine who is a pastor commented that the ideological makeup of the Army of the Potomac had never been dealt with. He was right. In this book Donnie and I attempt to do that, and not only for the Army of the Potomac but also for the other Union armies as well.
I hope that many reading this will go out and order the book. We need to begin to reorient our thinking as to what the War was really all about. Obviously, from the Southern perspective it was fought to protect Southern liberties and the rights of the states as guaranteed in the Tenth Amendment. However, from the Northern perspective, at least at many leadership levels, many considered it a classic example of class struggle--a favourite communist strategy both then and today.
So please, if you are able, get the book and begin to reorient your thinking about this most critical period of American history. If we fail to understand what this war was really all about, we will have almost no understanding of all the events that have transpired since them--all leading to more and bigger government.
