At the end of last year I published a special report in The Copperhead Chronicle newsletter called "Feminists and Forty-Eighters." It detailed, at some length, the connections between the Forty-Eighter socialists both in this country and in Europe and the radical Feminist Movement at that time and the decades following. (Sorry folks, no copies of that left, but the report will appear as an appendix in the new book Donnie Kennedy and I have written Red Republicans and Lincoln's Marxists. It is worth noting that those early feminists equated the marriage bond as a form of slavery, and therefore, to be abolished. Their radical agenda has not changed in the last 160 years.
Recently a friend in Soviet Massachusetts forwarded to me a copy of an article written by a Henry Makow Ph. D. that contained some interesting facts. Dr. Makow made some interesting observations about one of the newer apostles of the Women's Lib (Feminist) Movement, Betty Friedan. Dr. Makow noted: "Betty Friedan, the 'founder of modern feminism' pretended to be a typical 1950s American mother who had a 'revelation' that women like her were exploited and should seek independence and self-fulfillment in career. What Friedan (nee: Betty Naomi Goldstein) didn't say is that she had been a Communist propagandist since her student days at Smith College (1938-1942) and that destruction of the family has always been central to the Communist plan for world government...Friedan dropped out of grad school to become a reporter for a Communist news service..."
Darling Betty, understandibly, didn't want anyone to know about her Lefitst proclivities. Quite possibly her book The Feminist Mystique published in 1963 would not have sold over five million copies had the folks in Middle America known of her Leftist background or that a major part of her radical agenda was thoroughly anti-Christian. But, then, darling Betty is really no different than the feminists in 1848 that preceeded her.
So the Feminist Movement is against traditional marriage. You might wonder why until you begin to look at marriage from a Christian perspective. Rev. Steve Wilkins of Auburn Ave. Presbyterian Church in Monroe, Louisiana has stated that marriage is central to history. Pastor Wilkins has noted that: "Marriage is central to understanding the nature and destiny of man. Man is created after the image of God. But God is not a unitary being but a Triune Being. He is not an isolated person but three eternal Persons who live together in a holy communion of love. This means that the image of God cannnot be adequately displayed in isolated individuals but rather demands that man be in community...It is impossible for man in isolation from his fellows to show forth the image of God fully. Marriage therefore is not peripheral to the image of God but central to it." Pastor Wilkins has said that marriage is a picture of the redemptive work of Christ. He says "As men cleave to their wives so Christ obtained His bride (the church) and joins Himself to her and faithfully cleaves to her."
Given this perspective, it is understandable why the Feminist Movement, both in the beginning and today, seeks to destroy traditional marriage and the family. These folks hate God, and, as marriage between man and woman was ordained by Him, they, in their rage, seek to destroy it because they hate both it and their Creator. These folks have gotten to the pathetic point in their lives where they hate the One who gave them life and who sustains it minute by minute. Talk about a death wish! God accurately pointed out at one point in Scripture that "All who hate me love death." And no matter what platitudes they drag out about their supposed "independence" that includes the Feminists.
